Basic yellos dyes of the hydrazone series for dyeing/Printing leather, mordanted cellulose acetate, jute, sisal, in flexographic printing, printing and writing inks, and for dyeing/printing polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile copolymer and acid-modified aromatic polyesters, esp. on polyacrylonitrile material, have the formula: (where R is aromatic carbocylic; R1 is H or alkyl; R2 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, amino opt. substd. by alkyl groups or by an acyl, sulphonyl or carbamoyl group; R3 is H, alkyl or alkoxy; R4 is alkyl; R5 is nitrile or opt. substd. carboxamide; R6 is H, alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; X is the radical of an anion; the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic radicals R-R6 are unsubstd. or may be substd. by non-ionic substituents having a Hammett para sigma-constant of less than 0.7).
