The invention relates to an accessory device for sewing machines for sewing tape pieces onto sewing material automatically and in the correct longitudinal position. In order also to ensure an automatic positioning of the ply of the tape start, according to the invention the press foot is provided with an upper limiting wall of a guide channel formed in the press foot, the said upper limiting wall being capable of being raised in a beak-like manner. The guide channel of the press foot itself is held in the region of its lower limiting wall which extends into the region of the needle position and which rests solely on the lower ply of the sewing material. The upper limiting wall itself bears with specific prestress solely on the tape to be sewn on.
