PURPOSE:To easily release an optical element from a forming die without causing adverse effect on the optical element by feeding high pressure gas after forming the optical element under pressure to a duct line opened at positions of confrontedly arranged upper and lower die for forming the optical element other than the forming face for forming the optically functioning faces. CONSTITUTION:An opening 12 and 13 of a duct line 10 and 11 are provided to sections 5c, 6c outside of the effective diameter from sections 5a, 6a for forming optically functioning face 3a of an optical element 3, of a pair of upper die 5 and lower die 6 arranged confrontedly on a common axis. The optical element 3 is formed under pressure by means of the above described upper die 5 and lower die 6. Then, the pressure of the upper die 5 and the lower die 6 are released, and high pressure gas is fed forcibly and separately through the duct line 10 and 11 to both of the annular recesses 7, 8 formed on the sections 6c, 6c outside of the effective diameter. Thus, the optical element 3 contacting (attaching) with (to) the forming faces 5a, 6a is released from the die. By this process, the optical element can be released under clean condition without causing adverse effect on the press-formed optical element.
