There is disclosed a method for the treatment of a host animal, including man, to prevent or reduce the ability of the host animal to metabolize D-sugars as a means for weight control. The method comprises periodically administering to the host animal an amount of a non-metabolizable L-sugar sufficient to block at least a portion of the receptor sites on the enzymes which are responsible for metabolizing D-sugars. |
