PURPOSE:To increase the image forming speed by simultaneously leading plural laser beams to a single polygonal mirror to simultaneously scan and expose plural lines on a photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:When first and second laser beams 9a and 9b are simultaneously oscillated by first and second oscillating parts 11a and 11b provided in a single oscillator 11, laser beams 9a and 9b are led to a polygonal mirror surface 17 through a collimator lens 14 and a beam compressor 16 and are simultaneously scanned in the lengthwise direction as the main scanning direction of a photosensitive drum 12 at intervals of one pitch through an ftheta lens system 21 to simultaneously form an electrostatic latent image of two pitches on the drum 12. The interval between laser beams 9a and 9b oscillated from oscillating parts 11a and 11b is 1-50mum. Thus, the image forming speed is increased.
