PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of hard cake in a fine carbonaceous powder/ oil slurry and to enable handling such as discharge from tanks to be easily conducted, by using a specified polyether and a specified amine compd. in combination. CONSTITUTION:A hard cake formation inhibitor for fine carbonaceous powder/ oil slurry contains the following components A and B. [A]: a polyether compd. selected from among the following components (A-1) and (A-2). [A-1]: a polyether compd. having an MW of 1,000-3,000 obtd. by adding alkylene oxides including ethylene oxide as an essential ingredient to a condensate of an aliph. aldehyde with a compd. having an arom. ring and 1-2 active hydrogen atoms. [A-2]: a polyether compd. having an MW of 1,000-3,000 obtd. by adding alkylene oxides including ethylene oxide as an essential ingredient to a compd. having an arom. ring and 1-2 active hydrogen atoms and condensing the adduct with an aliph. aldehyde. [B]: an amine compd. such as an amine having 1-3 long-chain aliph. hydrocarbon groups, an amine salt or a quaternary ammonium salt.
