PURPOSE:To obtain an information recording area and a landing area which have ideal surface roughness by executing the working to the area corresponding to the floating starting area and floating completing area of the floating head on the surface of a glass substrate with the surface roughness more than 120Angstrom not exceeding 300Angstrom . CONSTITUTION:A substrate 11 for a magnetic disk, which is made of glass, executes the accumulation and reproducing of recording with a dynamic pressure floating head 21 floating on a recording surface 7 which is formed by a mag netic layer 13 laminated on the surface. The surface working is executed on the area corresponding to the floating starting area and floating completing area 5 of the floating head 21 of the surface of the substrate 11 with the surface roughness more than 120Angstrom not exceeding 300Angstrom . Namely, by executing the surface working such as grinding, etc., the substrate which is flat and smooth in a wide area can be easily obtained. And it is assumed that the surface of the glass substrate is lapped with changing the grain size in a lapping material and lapping film, etc. Thus, the value of surface roughness can be easily in creased at low cost and it is extremely easy to provide two areas whose surface roughness is different.
