PURPOSE:To provide high oxygen permeability and superior wettability with water by using a graft copolymer obtd. by graft-polymerizing a hydrophilic monomer on the polymer of an acetylene deriv. as a stock polymer. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic monomer, preferably ethylene oxide or a monomer represented by formula II [where R3 is H or CH3 and X is N(R4)2 (R4 is 1-3C lower alkyl), O(CH2)nN(R5)2 (n=1 or 2 and R5 is 1 or 2C lower alkyl) or a group represented by formula III] is graft-polymerized on the polymer of an acetylene deriv., preferably a polymer consisting of repeating units represented by formula I [where R1 is H or CH3 and R2 is C(CH3)3 or Si(CH3)3] as a stock polymer to obtain a graft copolymer. A hard contact lens made of the graft copolymer has very high oxygen permeability and superior wettability with water.
