PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of utilizing a traveling controller by automatically judging the degree of a curve with a G sensor and controlling stepwise brake pressure according to lateral G to reduce vehicle speed to safe one when the lateral G falls in a dangerous region. CONSTITUTION:An acceleration detector 24 (hereinafter called G sensor) for detecting the lateral acceleration of a vehicle as a means for judging the detection of a curved road is connected to the input port of a microcomputer control unit 31 in this controller, while a brake controller 34 is newly connected to an output port. Thus, when a value detected by the G sensor 24 exceeds a first reference value, the vehicle is judged to be traveling on the curved road, and the vehicle speed at that time is set to a desired one for constant speed traveling control. When the vehicle speed exceeds a second reference value larger than a first one, brake pressure is stepwise controlled by a brake controller 34 according to the lateral acceleration G between the lowest and highest brake pressure to reduce the vehicle speed to safe one and then set a manual mode.
