PURPOSE:To attain automation by rotating a gear train with air, detecting the rotation of a gear optoelectrically, and deciding the degree of load for the gear. CONSTITUTION:A rotor 2 is rotated for a constant time with the air from an air nozzle 1. An image of tooth tips of the gear 3 is formed on a photodetector 7 by a microscope 6 and the output of the photodetector 7 varies in a pulsative state according to the rotating speed of the gear 3. The pulsative variation is inputted to and counted by a counter 8. The output of the counter 8 is inputted to a comparator 9 and compared with an upper-limit value 10 and a lower- limit value 11, and a lamp 12 illuminates according to the comparison result.
