METHOD OF CASTING TITANIUM

A quantity of molten titanium is protected against embrittling contamination by containing all of the molten titanium within a receptacle and releasing along all titanium surfaces which are in contact with the receptacle the liquid and gaseous halide products of melting and decomposition (caused by heat of the molten titanium) of nonreactive flux consisting essentially of at least one halide which generates these protective products on exposure to temperatures of molten titanium.
