PURPOSE:To immediately recognize a recognition result as a pattern signal/code signal conversion device, by converting a character, a number, and a mark discriminated on a mark sheet to the character, the number, and the mark discriminated by the pattern signal/code signal conversion device, and outputting them to a facsimile equipment. CONSTITUTION:The pattern signal of the mark sheet inputted from the facsimile equipment 1 is stored transiently in a pattern signal storage buffer 5 from a connecting terminal on the facsimile equipment side, and is read by a recognition dictionary 7. At this time, the character possible to be read is stored in a code signal storage buffer 8, and simultaneously, a corresponding character in the pattern signal storage buffer 5 is replaced by the character generated by a character pattern generation circuit 13. As for the character possible to be read, the mark is superposed on the character by an unrecognizable position instructing mark generation circuit 10. A bit of mark sheet picture information arranged in such way in the pattern signal storage buffer 5 is outputted to the facsimile equipment 1 to which the mark sheet is inserted.
