PURPOSE:To obtain a optical fiber aligner which is free of variation in polarization characteristics due to the sharp curvature of an optical fiber and good in array accuracy by providing a guide groove substrate which has grooves for guiding optical fiber cores smoothly. CONSTITUTION:The guide groove substrate 6 made of glass to the same plate thickness with a silicon substrate 4 where V grove 5 are formed is arranged between the silicon substrate 4 and an end part of an optical fiber coating part 1, and adhered to a lower adhesive plate 3. Guide grooves 7 for optical fibers which are sectioned in a square shaped are formed in the top surface of the guide groove substrate 6 by chemical etching. Those guide grooves 7 are so formed that guide optical fiber cores 2 which project from the end part of the optical fiber coating part 1 to the V groove 5 in the silicon substrate 4 to smooth curvature (>=10mm radius). Consequently, the optical fiber aligner is obtained which has good array accuracy of <=1mum and no variation in polari zation characteristics.
