PURPOSE:To correctly demodulate a picture by sending the type of a color difference signal sent at first in terms of a code signal prior to the picture transmission. CONSTITUTION:Prior to the transmission of a picture data, a mode setting circuit 6 to send the transfer mode of the picture data is provided and the mode signal 9 of the picture data is sent just after the transmission start signal 8. An actual picture signal 10 is started from the signal 8 with the prescribed time of delay. A mode discrimination circuit 7 discriminates the signal 9 sent in this way to which mode the signal resides in 11 kinds of the modes and the synchronization of the receiver is controlled, corresponding to it. Since the data for a color difference signal of field start is sent in advance, the color reproducibility at the receiver is obtained accurately. The mode signal 9 may be a 4-bit digital signal representing which mode it is among all modes.
