PURPOSE:To save ink and to prevent the occurrence of stains on paper, by a method wherein, if a printer is stopped with a pen lowered, a timer is started to measure the time, and after the elapse of a set time, a control signal is outputted to a control circuit to drive a pen lifting mechanism to separate the tip of the pen from the paper. CONSTITUTION:If a power supply is lost due to the occurrence of emergency such as a power service interruption during printing, a printing action is brought to a stop and then a pen 15 used for printing at this time is stopped in pressure contact with printing surface P. With the occurrence of such an emergency, a timer 21 fed by a backup power is started. After the elapse of a short set time, a control signal is outputted from the timer 21 to a control circuit 22, and a lifting mechanism 20 is driven by the control circuit 22 to lift the pen 15 which has been used for printing. Therefore, there is no possibility of the penetration of the ink in the pen 15 causing stains on a paper 3 and of the waste of the ink. |
