The invention relates to the problem of automatically keeping the inner wall of a heated rotary tube (1) free from caking. It is based on the state of the art, in which a rolling body lies in the rotary tube, which body is provided on its outer surface with at least one helical strip. The basic thought of the invention consists in imposing on the rolling body a sliding movement instead of a pure rolling-off movement in order to achieve a scraping action of the strip on the rotary tube wall. To this end, the invention proposes two solutions. The first solution consists in the rolling body (10) being conical. The second solution consists in two cylindrical rolling bodies (17, 18) being present and the strips (19, 20) of the two rolling bodies (17, 18) being designed as counter-running screw windings which engage in one another. <IMAGE>
