The sealing lip of a shaft-sealing ring consists of the same material, a so-called kneader or mixing-mill mixture. This mixture is frequently inhomogeneous and has inclusions, accumulations of filtering materials and the like and this can lead to the break-out of the inclusions at the sealing edge after only a short period of use of the sealing ring. This leads to an unavoidable diminution of the sealing action. In order to avoid inclusions in the region of the sealing edge in a simple manner, the sealing lip (7) is produced in the region (13) of of its sealing edge (8) from a more homogeneous material than in the remaining part (7') of the sealing lip. In the region of its sealing edge (7), the sealing ring has an extremely high homogeneity, with the result that there are virtually no inclusions in the sealing edge (7). This ensures that the sealing ring gives perfect and leaktight contact of the sealing lip (7) with the shaft to be sealed off, even after a prolonged period in use. <IMAGE>
