The supply of toner in a reservoir 24, Fig.4, is replenished from a toner container 20 opened by movement of the container past a stationary knife blade 8, Fig. 3. Toner is fed from the opened container by an endless belt 27 having blades 28, by a reciprocating pusher 22, Fig.4, or by a movable cover (26) Fig. 5 (not shown). A plunger 19, Fig.4, is actuated by ratchet means 21 to raise a plunger 6 forming the bottom of the container 20, thereby displacing toner above the open top of the container. The plunger 19 and pusher 22 may be actuated periodically after a certain number of rotations of a magnetic brush 25 or in response to a signal from a photocell, (not shown), which senses toner concentration. |
