PURPOSE:To align tips of sheets and orderly stack them by slantly providing a stacking box below a transfer path and sticking a buffer member having a smooth surface to a receiving plate hit by tips of entering sheets in a zip code automatic reader/sorter or the like. CONSTITUTION:The mail P is clamped by a transfer path 6 consisting of a transfer belt 7, a transfer roller 8, and a guide plate 9 and horizontally transferred, when it approaches a stacking box 13 corresponding its zip code, a stub switch 12 is rotated to the transfer belt 7 side by the detection of photoelectric switches 17a, and the clamped state is released. Then, the mail P is guided by the lower face of the stub switch 12, a detecting lever 15, and a guide frame 14 and guided into the stacking box 13 inclined downward, and its tip hits a buffer member 18 stuck to a receiving plate 13c and is stopped. Since this buffer member 18 has a smooth surface with small friction coefficient and is made of a material easily absorbing shocks, the main P is orderly stacked on a slant plate 13a. Accordingly, sheets can be orderly stacked with their tips aligned.
