PURPOSE:To shorten stages and to reduce cost by holding a monolithic carrier in a drying tray having a closing part to close the lower side desired to be caulked and blowing air for drying from the lower side of the monolithic carrier, thereby drying the carrier. CONSTITUTION:The monolithic carrier 1 subjected to a water absorption treatment is set in a cylindrical frame 2 and after alumina slurry 3 prepd. by kneading active alumina, alumina sol, aluminum nitrate and water is charged atop the carrier 1, the excess slurry is blown off by wind 4. The carrier 1 is then held in the drying tray 6 having the annular closing part 6a to close the lower side of the cell in the part 5 desired to be caulked and is dried by blowing the air 7 for drying from the lower side of the tray 6. The cell in the outside circumferential part 5 is caulked and the part 9 which is not caulked, i.e., the part where an exhaust gas flows, is subjected to wash coating and thereafter, the carrier 1 is dried and calcined. |
