PURPOSE:To make an engine safely startable without entailing any damage to a tooth surface of gearing, by dividing battery capacity into a first battery of capacity capable of starting a starter motor at low speed and a second battery of the remaining capacity. CONSTITUTION:When a first switch is made in circuit, a closed circuit for a starter motor 1, a first battery 10 and a second a first switch 11 is formed, and a spline male gear 4 is thrust in a spline female gear 7 of a starter fitting shaft 6. At this time, sine capacity of the first battery 10a is small, the motor 1 starts at slow speed and, after the male gear 4 and the female gear 7 are joined together without receiving large impacy force, they are rotated at low speed. Next, when a second switch 12 is made in circuit, a second battery 10b is connected to the first battery 10a in parallel, so that a large current flows into the motor 1 by a large capacity battery 10, whereby an engine comes to high speed owing to large torque, thus it is smoothly started.
