PURPOSE:To obtain a color picture signal from the same position of a small picture element group by interpolating a color signal from a small picture element before and after the middle small picture element among small picture elements arranged in line-shape. CONSTITUTION:Picture information on an original or the like is converted into a picture data of a prescribed bit number corresponding to each color signal by the picture processing such as color separation processing and an A/D conversion processing or the like by a picture reader 50. Each picture data is subject to picture processing such as magnification/reduction in a magnification/reduction circuit 2 by means of the linear interpolation method. In such a case, the interpolation data used as a picture data after the magnification/reduction is stored in an interpolation table (ROM) and the interpolation selection data stored in the ROM and the picture data before magnification/reduction processing are used as the signal to select the interpolation data. The picture data after picture processing is sent to an output device 65, where it is recorded by a set magnification.
