PURPOSE:To impart excellent gas-barrier property and moisture permeability to a container, by applying a specific coating agent to the outer surface of the titled container, applying the coating layer again to the coated surface, and drying the coating layers, thereby forming a synthetic resin coating layer to the surface of the container. CONSTITUTION:At least the outer surface of the body wall of a container made of a thermoplastic polyester (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) having biaxially oriented body is coated with a coating agent comprising a vinylidene chloride (co)polymer, an aqueous solution of vinyl alcohol (co)polymer, or a mixture of two or more above components, and containing 1.0-20wt%, based on the synthetic resin, of an anionic surface active agent. The coated surface is again coated with two or more above coating agents, and dried to obtain synthetic resin coating layers. The surface hardness of the container can be improved by applying a coating agent containing a component forming a synthetic resin layer having both hardness and transparency and a photo-sensitizer to the container, and irradiating with ultraviolet radiation.
