PURPOSE:To easily detect a reference track by writing the simple pattern of servo information to the reference track with a writing frequency different from frequency to be used for a usual track. CONSTITUTION:With a writing frequency different from frequency to be used usual tracks T1-T4 the simple pattern of servo information SO is written to a reference track T0. By a distinguishing means from the reading signal of the servo information SO read through a head 3, the track different in writing frequency, namely, the reference track is detected. Thus, the sensor to detect the reference track is not especially necessary, and consequently, the labor for the fitting and the position adjustment after the fitting is made unnecessary.
