PURPOSE:To form a narrow track and a narrow gap head, both of which are suitable for high density at high accuracy by forming a soft magnetic metallic film equivalent to the recording width in a recording gap part. CONSTITUTION:A ferrite material is cut into blocks, a gap surface 41 is grounded and finished to a mirror surface, and each surface is machined to attain excellent perpendicularity and excellent parallelism by using a slider surface as a reference. A ferrite bar becoming a core chip is formed by spattering, depositing and plating a soft magnetic metal 61 and a nonmagnetic layer 62. In a photolithographic step, only a soft magnetic metal 71 corresponding to the tracking width and a nonmagnetic layer 72 remain unremoved in the position required for core chip formation, and the others are removed. Finally a slider part is glass-melted, and a suspension adhering groove 81, a slider groove 82, etc., are machined. A part denoted by oblique lines is removed to finish details.
