It comprises a body 30, means 80, 90 for centring the body inside a pipe (tube) to be welded, a torch-carrying shaft 32 mounted so as to rotate inside the body, a welding torch having a metal electrode shielded by an inert gas, mounted at one end of the said torch-carrying shaft 32, means 36, 39 for driving the torch-carrying shaft 32 in rotation, means 46, 48 for adjusting the axial position of the torch-carrying shaft 32 in relation to the body, means for supplying the torch with electric current and with shielding gas, a pay-out reel for supplying the torch with metal electrode wire and means 16, 74 for guiding and driving the electrode wire as far as the welding torch. <IMAGE>
