<p>Continuous casting mould cooling installation comprises a sealed overhead cooling water tank, into which is fed the used cooling water and from the bottom of which feed coolant water is abstracted through a line in which there is a circulating pump, a heat exchanger and a one way valve. The space above the water in the tank is kept under an excess inert gas pressure acting as an elastic pressure pad. The tank is fitted with an emergency supply line to the mould with a one way valve, which opens when the pump stops. In the prefd. set up gas pressure of between 0.3-0.4 atmos. is maintained in the tank. A level difference of =5m should exist between the bottom outlet of the emergency supply line from the tank and the casting mould. The system permits a relatively long duration of emergency supply as even then coolant is recirculated. The inert gas prevents O2 pick-up by water and consequent accelerated corrosion action.</p> |
