A disc flywheel has an engine-side part and, rotatable relative thereto, a gear-side part, a sealed chamber arranged between the engine-side part and the gear-side part and filled with a viscous fluid, a number of trailing discs which are arranged in the chamber and which are connected in a drive-transmitting manner alternately to the engine-side and the gear-side part, an arrangement for determining a torque to be transmitted from an engine via the disc flywheel to a gear and an arrangement for connecting in a drive-transmitting manner the engine-side to the gear-side part depending upon the torque determined by the previously mentioned arrangement. In one embodiment, the disc flywheel has an actuation arrangement for increasing the torque transmitted via the trailing discs depending upon the torque determined by the said arrangement. In another embodiment, the disc flywheel has a movable part which is arranged between the engine-side and the gear-side part and can be connected in a drive-transmitting manner to one of the two parts, a number of trailing discs which are arranged in the sealed chamber and which are connected in the direction of rotation in a drive-transmitting manner alternately to the movable part and to the engine-side part or the gear-side part, and, arranged between the movable part and the engine-side part or the gear-side part, ...
