PURPOSE:To optionally decrease the picture storage time (exposure time) by discharging a signal charge on a photosensing section via a V-CCD once on its way. CONSTITUTION:A reset electrode 31 to discharge the electric charge on the V-CCD 13 is provided newly on a conventional channel stop 12 and the level of a potential barrier PD is controlled by a voltage VRS applied thereto. In increasing the voltage VRS applied to the reset electrode 31, the energy level of the part corresponding to the channel stop 12 is decreased by the quantity and the electric charge on the V-CCD 13 passes through the location of the channel stop 12, flows to an overflow drain 17 of the adjacent picture element and discharged at the outside of the element. Thus, the time length storing the effective signal charge is reduced substantially to improve the shutter speed.
