PURPOSE:To obtain stable drying yield and improve space efficiency at the same time, by concentrating a sol before gelation, removing an alcohol, gelatiniz ing and drying the resultant gel in producing glass by a sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:A metal alkoxide as a starting raw material is used to produce glass by a sol-gel method. In the process, sol before gelation is concentrated to remove an alcohol formed by hydrolysis. The resultant sol is gelatinized and dried. Thereby active ingredient concentration is increased for forming glass and gel shrinkage factor is reduced to decrease probability of drying crack. Since the shrinkage factor is low, large bulk is obtained from wet gel of the same size. Furthermore, since the alcohol in which drying is hard to control in drying the wet gel is previously removed from the sol, the drying state is stabilized to contribute to improvement in yield. |
