PURPOSE:To prevent any damage to a sheet workpiece from occurring as well as to polish it in an accurate manner, by tacking the sheet workpiece to a lower plate with an intermediator, making it into an integral body in the specified thickness, and polishing this integral body after being set to a holder. CONSTITUTION:A glass plate 1 of about 1.1mm in thickness as a sheet workpiece is tackedly fixed onto float glass 3 of 2.75mm or so in thickness via a vinyl sheet 2 of 0.3mm or so in thickness, setting it down to an integral body 4 in the specified thickness. And, this integral body 4 is sustained as held in between from both sides by a holder 5 so as to project a polishing surface of the glass plate 1 as far as the specified height from the holder 5. Afterward, a surface of the glass plate 1 is polished by a grinder 6. At this time, the glass plate is reinforced as one body together with the float glass 3, and since it is positively held thereat, it is in no case cracked or broken, thus polishing is uniformly performable in an accurate manner.
