PURPOSE:To prevent skew from being generated at the time of reproduction, by dividing and recording a video signal in one vertical scanning period to plural tracks with plural rotary heads, and synthesizing signals after correcting stop-out between time base errors and the tracks, after performing the reproduction processing of a reproducing signal at every reproducing signal of a head at the time of the reproduction. CONSTITUTION:A high definition television signal inputted to an input terminal 12 is inputted to a memory circuit 16 via an A/D conversion circuit 16 at the time of recording, and after being divided time-compressed, and it is inputted to a recording circuit 3 via a D/A conversion circuit 20, and is recorded on respective track on a magnetic tape 7 with the rotary heads 2A and 2B. Next, at the time of reproduction, the reproduction of the reproducing signals of the heads 2A and 2B are processed separately at reproduction circuits 6A and 6B, and are digital-converted at conversion circuits 21A and 21B. Next, based on the detection signals of detection circuits 23A and 23B and that of a detecting part 27, the correction for the time base error, and for the step-out are performed, and they are synthesized by a switch 28 being switched synchronizing with a segment switching timing signal, and is outputted to an output terminal 14 via a D/A conversion circuit 26. In such way, the skew can be eliminated.
