PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost and to improve the recording and reproducing efficiency by forming a crack to a ferrite crystal and using the crack as a head gap. CONSTITUTION:The crack 3 is caused by bringing a cooled metallic wire in contact with a gap forming part 2 of a ferrite crystal 1 formed to constitute a head main body. Then, the crack 3 is utilized as the head gap and a ferrite head is obtained by applying electromagnetic transducing winding 4 to the ferrite crystal 1. Thus, no accurate grinding process is required for the gap forming face and the working strain layer is caused to the gap forming face by grinding. Thus, the production cost is reduced and the permeability and the recording and reproducing efficiency are improved.
