PURPOSE:To obtain a plating layer consisting of an oxide film having a uniform blue hue on the surface of a steel sheet by subjecting an iron or steel base material to plating at a prescribed temp. by using a zinc alloy for hot dipping contg. Ti and Mn and allowing the material to cool in the atm., then subjecting the material to water cooling or warm water cooling. CONSTITUTION:The iron or steel base material is immersed for >=1min at 530-550 deg.C bath temp. in a zinc alloy bath for hot dipping contg. 0.1-0.5wt%, more particularly 0.3wt% Ti and 0.05-0.15wt%, more particularly 0.1wt% Mn. The iron or steel base material is then pulled up from said zinc alloy bath and is allowed to cool for a short period of 15-25sec in the atm., and immediately thereafter, the material is subjected to the water cooling or warm water cooling. The plating layer consisting of the oxide film having the uniform blue hue is thereby formed on the steel surface.
