PURPOSE:To enable low machine height and small radius of curvature of a cast slab by straightening the slab bending while giving shearing deformation and bending deformation alternately to the cast slab. CONSTITUTION:Upper roll and lower roll are respectively arranged, so that the perpendicular line to the cast slab direction passing through axial center for the upper side roll 15 is shifted by (x) in the range of less than the cast slab thickness D1 to the same perpendicular line for the lower side roll 16 toward upstream side in the advancing direction of cast slab. In this way, the prescribed shearing force with less bending moment between the upper and the lower rolls, is obtd. On the other hand, in positional relation of the upper and the lower rolls 17, 18 adjoined to the rolls 15, 16 toward the advancing direction of cast slab, the upper and the lower rolls 17, 18 are arranged, so that the perpendicular line to the cast slab direction passing through the axial center for the roll 17 is shifted by (y) in the range of more than the cast slab thickness D2 to the same perpendicular line for the roll 16 toward the advancing direction of cast slab. In this way, the necessary bending moment to straightening is obtd. by little shearing force between the rolls 16, 17. Thus, the shearing deformation and the bending deformation are alternately given to the cast slab.
