The invention relates to a process for applying solvent-free plastics, in particular adhesive plastics, to substrates of any kind by flame spray coating, the plastics in pulverulent form being sprayed in the molten state by flame spray devices known per se. In this arrangement, the application may be subjected to closed-loop or open- loop control by varying the length of the flame of the flame spraying device. The temperature of the emerging plastic particles may furthermore be affected by the closed-loop or open-loop control of the rate and/or of the volume of the cooling gas emerging from an annular nozzle (96). <IMAGE>
