PURPOSE:To suppress oxidation of a negative electrode making a thin and light weight battery by providing a vent pipe (capillary) with fine hole diameter in a battery case so that inside the battery is substituted by inert gas supplied through the capillary when the battery is completed. CONSTITUTION:A battery case and an internal cover is formed by polypropylene, and electrode plate groups are inserted into each cell chamber of the battery jar. In a state that a necessary amount of electrolyte is retained at the electrode plates and a separator not remaining free electrolyte, the battery jar is sealed using an internal cover and an over cover of each cell chamber, on which a capillary with a hole diameter of 2 mm and a length of 15 mm is mounted. After completion of the battery by charging, utilizing the vent pipe comprising an exhaust pipe and a capillary between internal cover and over cover, nitrogen gas is supplied to each cell chamber to substitute inside the battery by the nitrogen gas and a closed type lead storage battery is manufactured. By the arrangement, oxidation of the negative electrode by oxygen gas in the air can be suppressed not becoming practically problematic and wall thickness of the battery jar can be thinner than conventional one. |
