A handrail for railings, in particular for spiral staircases, comprises a plurality of handrail pieces, which are fastened on vertical, spaced-apart handrail standards. In order to obtain a handrail which can be mounted easily and rapidly, even by unskilled persons, which has good stability and which additionally has an attractive appearance very similar to that of glued wooden handrails, each handrail piece (3) has obliquely running end surfaces (4) with in each case one cutout (5) partially receiving a handrail standard (1), is arranged in a positively locking manner between handrail standards (1), and is screw-connected to the handrail standards (1) in the region of its end surfaces (4). <IMAGE>
