PURPOSE:To use a desired holding tone by reading card information in loading a card, storing it in a memory, reading the content of memory at operation of a holding button and sending it while being converted into a holding tone signal thereby expanding the selecting range of the holding tone. CONSTITUTION:An external element detection circuit 11 detects the loading of a magnetic card when the card recording a holding tone in advance is located to a card loading part 20 of a telephone set 10 and sends the result to an external element content reading circuit 12. The read circuit 12 reads the content recorded on a magnetic card and stores the contents onto a storage circuit 13. Then when the holding button on the telephone set 10 is depressed, a control circuit 14 detects the request of the holding tone sending, the storage circuit 13 reads the stored content, converts it into a holding tone signal and the holding tone signal is sent from the holding tone sending circuit 15 to the opposite party. Thus, the range of selection of the holding tone is expanded by the increase in the kind of the magnetic card.
