PURPOSE:To prevent jamming, inversion, breaking, etc. of paper, by arranging a base section for guiding the tip portion of paper advancably/retreatably on a mounting table between a feed roller and the mounting table, thereby making the length of a paper accumulation area in the carrying direction variable. CONSTITUTION:When papers of intermediate size are accumulated by means of a paper accumulator 1, plates 8, 9 are moved downward while resisting against a spring 10, then only the plate 8 is rotated and projected from a base section 4 so as to form a paper accumulation area 7b on a paper mounting table 3 between a stopper 5. Consequently, a paper 6b being carried through a pair of feed rollers 2 slides over the base section 4 and guided by the plate 8 onto the mounting table 3, thereby the front end thereof is contacted against the stopper 5 by means of an energizing roller 11 while the rear end thereof approaches closely to the plate 8 so as to accumulate the paper sequentially at a position lower than the upper face thereof. In case of a large size paper, both plates 8, 9 contain the paper while in case of small size paper, the plate 9 is projected. Consequently, jamming, inversion, breaking, etc., of paper can be prevented when accumulating various size of papers.
