The invention relates to a method for capturing or detecting immune complexes by means of an immunoadsorbent and/or immunodetector. The immune complexes are immune complexes preformed via complement factors or immune complexes formed in vivo. Bird antibodies, preferably chicken antibodies, are used as immunoadsorbent or immunodetector. The method comprises both capturing the immune complex by means of chicken antibodies and detecting the immune complex by means of chicken antibodies. The invention further relates to the use of bird antibodies for capturing or detecting immune complexes in liquids containing such complexes. The invention also relates to a composition for use in capturing or detecting immune complexes in individuals. The composition comprises an immunoabsorbent or immunodetector associated with suitable carriers in solid phase, such as a polymer material, or in liquid phase. The co mposition comprises bird antibodies as immunoadsorbent or immunodetector.
