PURPOSE:To couple two transmission lines having an optional signal waveform by providing two sets of repeater circuits each comprising a receiver, a waveform conversion circuit and a driver between 1st and 2nd transmission lines. CONSTITUTION:Two sets of repeater circuits comprising receivers 9, 12, waveform conversion circuits 10, 13 and drivers 11, 14 are provided between the 1st transmission line 1 and the 2nd transmission line 2. The data on the transmission lines 1, 2 inputted via the receivers 9, 12 are sent to waveform conversion circuits 10, 13 and sent to mark bit detection circuits 15, 17. When the detection circuits 15, 17 detect a mark bit of data, a control means 16 start corresponding conversion circuits 10, 13. Thus, the data on the transmission line 1 or 2 detecting a mark bit is subject to waveform conversion and the result is sent to the other transmission line 2 or 1.
