PURPOSE:To facilitate the adjustment of a terminal side attenuator by measuring an incoming data signal at the terminal equipment side by the center side and applying remote control to the terminal equipment side attenuator so as to bring the level to a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:In order to set a level of an incoming data signal sent from a terminal equipment A, a carrier ON signal including a terminal address 15 and an attenuator data being a set object is sent from the center to the terminal equipment. When the address 15 is its own station address in the terminal equipment side, the succeeding attenuator data is fetched by a CPU 5. Then an attenuator 10 is controlled based on the attenuator data and a level check signal 13 is sent as a reply data. The center measures the level check signal 13 and when it is not a proper value, the attenuator data 16 is sent to a terminal equipment while being superimposed on the carrier ON signal 11. When the level setting is finished, the carrier OFF signal 12 is sent from the center and the terminal equipment stops the carrier transmission.
