Method of checking the signal quality of a digital recording apparatus

For checking the signal quality of a digital recording apparatus, it is proposed to couple out the digital recording channels of the recording apparatus before their recording and route them to a recording simulator. The recording simulator alters the recording channels routed to it in accordance with interference simulation patterns which are generated by a computer in dependence on fixed testing programs. The altered recording channels are routed from the recording simulator to the digital recording apparatus, where they are coupled into the reproducing branch of the latter, bypassing the recording section. The reproduced, altered recording channels are then checked for their signal quality.
