PURPOSE:To achieve efficient compression coding for an intermediate tone picture signal, by run length coding of a new long time series signal having consecutive 0, 1 acquired through logically conversion of a time series signal of 0, 1 repeated with white and black pictures periodically. CONSTITUTION:After an intermediate tone signal on a signal line 51 outputted from a facsimile scanner 1 is converted into a digital signal at an A/D converter 2, the result is compared with a binary threshold value periodically changed on a signal line 5 at a comparator 6, and a binary coded time series signal X picked up on a signal line 56 is logically converted at a logical conversion circuit 7 and a converted time series signal Y is outputted on an output signal line 57. This signal Y is code-compressed at a compressing coder 8 for transmission. Thus, the intermediate tone picture signal is compressed efficiently and transmitted. |
