PURPOSE:To obtain a gel coat which possesses an excellent external appearance and boiling resistance and is superior also in weather resistance, by making use of a specific resin having unsaturated bond in the side chain for the gel coat forming a surface layer of a reinforced plastics molding. CONSTITUTION:A resin having unsaturated bond in the side chain shown by formula I is used for a gel coat forming a surface layer of a reinforced plastic molding by either adding a coloring agent thereto or not adding the coloring agent. In the formula A is a main chain composed of copolymer resin of a vinyl monomer and acryloyl group or a metharyloyl group, R is hydrogen or a methyl group and Y is a residue of epoxy resin obtained by eliminating an ester bond from one where the said ester bond has been formed by a ring opening addition reaction of an epoxy group in a molecule with a caboxyl group. As FRP to be obtained does not have a hydrolyzable ester bond in the main chain and moreover a polymeric resin of the side chain unsaturated type, having a (meth)acryloyl group through an epoxy resin skeletal structure in the side chain is used as the gel coat, physical properties due to deterioration is low and possesses excellent external appearance, boiling resistance and weather resistance.
