In an unloading and loading apparatus whose end piece (11) of the piece-goods conveyor (12) is guided in a bridge-like manner over the pallet conveyor (6), the unloading of the arriving pallets (2) takes place in a known way. In order to avoid the respective reversing of the conveying direction of the pallet conveyor (6) and of the piece goods conveyor (12) for the immediately following reloading of the pallet (2), the end piece (11) is transversely displaceable. The unloaded pallet (2) travels onwards in the feed direction, under the end piece (11) and, after the transverse displacement of the end piece (11), is reloaded at the other side of the latter. <IMAGE>
