PURPOSE:To narrow the track width and to improve the wear resistance by providing a couple of slots packed with a nonmagnetic material therein to both sides of a magnetic gap and restricting the track width by the slots. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic gap 2 and a coil winding hole 3 are formed to the butted part of a couple of cores made of ferrite in a magnetic head core 15. Then two parallel slots 6, 6' traversing the gap 2 are formed at a prescribed tilt angle alpha in a prolonged direction of the gap 2 with a gap forming a desired track width and the angle alpha is preferably 10-30 deg.. Moreover, a nonmagnetic material, preferably glass 7 is packed in the slots 6, 6' and the glass 7 is exposed respectively to both side faces of the core. Thus, the core width a narrow track width and excellent wear resistance is obtained inexpensively.
