PURPOSE:To convert colors efficiently and accurately by giving the coefficients of converting colors Y, M and C by absolute values and permitting a multiplier and an adder to process them. CONSTITUTION:The coefficient of a matrix is stored together with code information. In response to the selection of color component data in color image data, the coefficient is read out of a storage means, and a multiplication means obtains the product of the coefficient and the color component data. According to the code information, an addition and subtraction means adds or subtracts an output from the multiplication means, and outputs the conversion results. Thus color conversion can be made accurately and efficiently with a simple constitution.
