PURPOSE:To enable judging on the propriety of a magnetic disc medium accurately at all times, by providing an apparatus for inspecting electromagnetic conversion characteristic of the magnetic disc medium with a reference signal generator which generates a fixed magnetic flux in each inspection. CONSTITUTION:Prior to inspection, a reference signal generator 6 is driven so that a fixed source power flows to a coil 4 with a reference power source 5 to excite it and the resulting magnetic flux is reproduced with a test head 3, an output signal of which is taken into a control unit 8 to make a signal value A. Then, a carriage 7 is driven and the test head 3 is loaded on a magnetic disc medium 2 to turn the medium 2. The unit 8 corrects an input signal value by multiplying it by a correction factor already memorized to judge the propriety of the medium 2. Subsequently, a signal generator 6 is driven and a reproduction output signal of the test head 3 is taken into the unit 8 to make a signal value B. Moreover, with the until 8, A/B is determined to be memorized as new correction factor and the correction factor is multiplied at each inspection thereby enabling judging on the propriety of magnetic disc medium to be measured accurately.
